Surrounded by a greenbelt, and nestled into about three square kilometres, east of Highway 417 on Innes Road lies Blackburn Hamlet. Blackburn Hamlet has matured from a bedroom community outside of Ottawa to a tightly knit family, proud of its independent standing in the East Gloucester area.
In this community you will find tennis courts, summer pool, track, arena, ball diamonds, soccer pitch, bicycle and cross-country ski paths. Guiding and scouting groups meet throughout the year. An active community association, newcomer’s club, block parents and neighbourhood watch are in effect. A publication by the name of ‘The Banar’ is distributed about every two months to keep everyone informed of activities and coming events. To the North of Old Innes, you will find mostly single family houses, many backing on parks. Local bus routes service the area, plus express buses provide service to downtown Ottawa-Hull.
As for services, Blackburn Hamlet offers a library, pharmacies, medical, dental and law offices, bakeries as well as plenty of specialty stores. A variety of schools and services are available within Blackburn Hamlet.
